How Do I Continue the Bos Quests

Despite the absence of human NPCs and quest givers in Fallout 76, you'll still be able to join a few different factions you may recognize from the series.

A small detachment of the Brotherhood of Steel once tried to contain the scorched menace in Appalachia, and if you want to take up their quests, you'll have to prove your worth by undertaking a few quests in the right order.

Joining the Brotherhood of Steel

You can find abandoned BoS camps all over, but you'll need to start their questline at the right place if you want to actually join the group.

Your first target is Abbie's Bunker, a hidden shelter on the North side of The Mire. Be warned that the Mire is no walk in the park, and you should at least be around level 20 if you want to be able to fend of the threats of the swamp.

Hack the terminal (which shouldn't require any Hacking perks to open) so that you may enter the bunker. Once inside, look for Abbie's personal terminal in her room (not to be confused with the other Free States terminals) to find info about Fort Defiance, starting the quest Defiance Has Fallen.

If you haven't already found the location, you may have to first explore Camp Venture on the South side of the Mire to get more info. Unlike Abbie's Bunker, expect it to be guarded by Scorched, and access to the camp's secrets won't be easy to get to.

Access to the command center is prohibited except to those who have the code, and the code lies in a basement storage of the V.E.S.T. building on the lower side of the camp. To get inside, find locate the quartermaster's key in the bunkhouse lockers, which will need to be lockpicked.

With the key in hand, head to the secure storage basement below the VEST building on the lower end of the camp to find the command center password in a note next to a radio, among other supplies.

With the password, you'll be able to enter the command center, which boasts many supplies and more intel. However, the item you need the most is the Letter to Tommy inside to get your next objective - the location of the Fort Defiance.

Now you can go explore Fort Defiance, a former mental hospital on the edge of Cranberry Bog and the Savage Divide. The place is under semi-permanent siege by Scorched, but they can be bypassed.

The entrance to the fort proper is on the left, but you will need to power and explore the hospitals top floors to power the gate into the fort. Be wary of high level enemies that can guard the upper floors as you follow the power lines to a circuit breaker, then quickly drop down the floors to the main level.

Be sure to read the note pinned to the board as you enter, which will complete Defiance Has Fallen and start you on your next task, Recruitment Blues.

At the end of the fort side of the hospital is another roadblock - a shielded elevator and a terminal that requires your credentials - which only accepts valid military member IDs. But how will you ever get one?

Look around the sleeping areas for Squire Evelyn's Journal - Page 16, to get your answer. It seems you need a valid military ID to enlist, and there's an automated boot camp still active in Appalachia.

Travel to Camp McClintock on the southeast side of the Forest and enlist in basic training with the master Sargent there, starting the side quest Back to Basic and complete all the courses to get your Soldier's certificate. But wait, that's not enough for the Brotherhood - you need an official military ID, and the only place you can do that is the DMV. Yikes.

Travel to the Charleston Capitol Building and look for the DMV wing to find it still in business thanks to some very bored robots. There's no way around this - it's going to be pain. You'll need to use the terminal in the back to fill out your form, then print out a waiting ticket and start the automated service to begin calling numbers - which will trigger Feral Ghouls to attack frequently.

You'll have to slog through a lot of tedious paperwork and terminal typing, and you'll also be sent to find a postmarked letter in a nearby post box outside, which can usually be found on the other side of the capitol building.

You'll also need to get an entirely different form at the office of the registrar, which is located in the other broken section of the Capitol building through a tunnel made by a bus.

Finally, you'll need approval of the Governor himself, which means traveling through the broken halls of the Capitol Building to the Governor's office and finding his seal on the table behind the front desk.

Once you've survived this torturous journey, get your picture taken, and finally have your official government seal of approval, you can head back to Fort Defiance. Use the terminal to officially induct yourself into the Brotherhood of Steel.

Now, take the elevator to the top floor into your new headquarters, which features a safe space to eat, craft, loot, and undertake quests for the Brotherhood. Read up on all the notes and terminals to finish the Recruitment Blues quest.

Getting in will also grant you exclusive rewards like an outfit and weapons, and completing more of their quests will eventually get you even better rewards, including plans for the Ultracite Power Armor, some of the best in the game
